Taught by Katie Pfohl\, MAP Farm Manager. \nClasses are offered in partnership between the Massachusetts Avenue Project\, Urban Roots Cooperative Garden Market\, and Grassroots Gardens of WNY. \nMAP is a nonprofit food hub and urban farm that promotes equity and access by connecting people to nutritious\, local food. Located on Buffalo’s West Side\, our dedicated staff and volunteers work in neighborhoods throughout Buffalo to build connections with people and work with them to build a food system that benefits people\, the planet and our regional economy. \nWe offer culinary education classes on a sliding scale with the goal of bringing people together to share good food. DESCRIPTION:Orchid Repotting with the Niagara Frontier Orchid Society\nApril 16\, 2026\, 5:00 – 7:00 pm \nJoin us for an Orchid Repotting Event in partnership with the Niagara Frontier Society! \nBring your orchid with you! Our experts will help repot your plant and give you lots of great advice on how to care for your orchid . There will be growing medium and varied sized pots for sale. Prices will vary depending on your needs and will range from $5-$25. (Prices may include a new pot\, growing medium and orchid repotting by an expert). All proceeds benefit the Niagara Frontier Orchid Society. \nWhen to repot an orchid: \n\nIt’s new to your family – Repot right after it blooms!\nIn the spring – Check the bark mix in the spring and repot it if you notice any bark decomposition.\nIt’s crowded – Orchids do prefer a small pot and they will start to weave their roots through the growing medium as they grow and will eventually run out of room. The roots will start to push the plant up above the rim of the pot or reach out into the air\, looking for room to breathing space. This is a sure sign to provide new accommodations for your plant.\n\nThe Orchid Repotting Event will take place in the Community Room of the Administration Building on the Botanical Gardens’ campus. There is no admission fee\, just what you spend on repotting\, pots and growing medium. If you just want to stop by to get some advice\, we are happy to talk orchids for days!

DESCRIPTION:The Genesee Region Orchid Society’s Annual Orchid Show and Sale. \n\n\nThe GROS held our first Orchid Show in April of 1969 at the Garden Center of Rochester; we recorded some 225 visitors.. Many other of our annual shows of that era consisted of groups of orchids displayed on shelves\, with little adornment or attempt to create a “natural” or artistic environment that is typical of orchid shows today. \nIn 1971\, the club presented its show at Sibley’s – Rochester’s fabled flagship downtown department store\, and over the years\, we’ve held our annual Spring Shows at various locations around Rochester. By 1978\, our show at the Garden Center drew over 1\,800 people! \nOur first show to feature American Orchid Society judging dates to 1980\, when two plants received awards: Oncidum Purple Envy ‘Suzy’ AM/AOS and Phalaenopsis Spitzberg ‘Mrs. March’\, HCC/AOS. \nWe are planning for our 50th annual orchid show to be our largest and most exciting ever! Biochar isn’t something new it was developed by pre-Columbian indigenous populations in the Amazon Basin (mainly modern-day Brazil) over 2\,500 years ago. Did you know you can make your own biochar at home from different types of biomasses such as woody plant material and even grasses. \nSonnenberg Gardens and Cornell Cooperative Extension are hosting a free workshop on Saturday April 18\, 2026 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Rain date Sunday April 19\, 2026 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.  \nThe workshop will be held at Sonnenberg Gardens\, 250 Gibson St. Canandaigua NY. DESCRIPTION:The Genesee Region Orchid Society’s Annual Orchid Show and Sale. \n\n\nThe GROS held our first Orchid Show in April of 1969 at the Garden Center of Rochester; we recorded some 225 visitors.. Many other of our annual shows of that era consisted of groups of orchids displayed on shelves\, with little adornment or attempt to create a “natural” or artistic environment that is typical of orchid shows today. \nIn 1971\, the club presented its show at Sibley’s – Rochester’s fabled flagship downtown department store\, and over the years\, we’ve held our annual Spring Shows at various locations around Rochester. By 1978\, our show at the Garden Center drew over 1\,800 people! \nOur first show to feature American Orchid Society judging dates to 1980\, when two plants received awards: Oncidum Purple Envy ‘Suzy’ AM/AOS and Phalaenopsis Spitzberg ‘Mrs. March’\, HCC/AOS. \nWe are planning for our 50th annual orchid show to be our largest and most exciting ever!
