This map is something of a new project here at the Viridarium. (We’re still adding locations and content.) Our goal is to highlight the locally owned garden centers and farm markets across Western, NY. Over the coming months and years we hope to visit a number of garden centers throughout the region and begin to share their stories.

To reduce clutter and again, to highlight locally owned garden centers, we have currently left big box stores like Lowes, Home Depot, CountryMax, and Walmart off our map. Without local garden centers, the variety and selection of plants available to us locally would be limited to those chosen by the corporate offices of Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart.

A diversity of plant species not only helps provide resilience to pests and disease, it ensures a vibrant and inviting backdrop to our daily lives.
